Using large brush strokes and bold colour in my style of painting, I seek to provoke a sense of emotion and awareness of a past experiences. The abstract pieces are driven by impressions of physical surroundings as well as recollections. I find that they are often reactions to a wonderful view, large skies, reflections in the sea and rivers or atmospheric surroundings.

The semi-abstract landscapes are usually derived from sketches and watercolours created en plein air. I find that sketching a scene first-hand before painting on a larger scale is crucial to capture the mood of the moment. This method allows me to sieze the scene within its physical environment. I normally work with pen and ink to capture the details and washes of watercolour layers to convey the tonal hues.

These sketches are later interpreted into large paintings using layers of thin oil or acrylic on the canvas which reflect the same fluid movement and watery translucent feel of the sketches. Layers of pigment are then added to complete the paintings. I tend to leave small areas of the base layers of the painting still in view as a contrast to the developed areas. I find that the initial stimulation for a piece can be the hardest part of the painting but if you have connected with a scene the painting can flow easily in a very unconscious way. In other situations, there may be a certain ebb & flow before the piece reaches its conclusion

I initially studied at Central St Martin’s school of art and enjoyed an extensive career within the Design and Interiors world. This included textile design, illustration and colour forecasting before I joined a young and demanding Interior Design company in West London. I spent many wonderful years working on fast paced and elaborate projects. Throughout this time, I was always involved in the colour palettes as well as the decorative accessories and artworks. I travelled the world to discover new artisans who created unique pieces for our Clients. This background has given me both a practical and an aesthetic knowledge of the art world.

In 2015  I returned to my passion to work full time as an artist. During this time, I have liaised with many Interior Designs as well as private Clients on commissions for residential properties all over the world. I have participated in solo and joint exhibitions and am also represented by a number of galleries. It is always exciting to reach new audiences. Reactions to one’s work are always rewarding and motivational.  My goal is to create bold and striking pieces that resonate with the viewer.

Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you wish to discuss a potential commission or idea that you may have, I would love to hear from you.
